GUIDE

The HOLY SPIRIT has anointed & commissioned Jesus to be present (now within and through us) to:

  1. Proclaim good news to the poor:
    1. What kind of poverty is here? Spirit, speak good news.
    2. How good is your news, God? There is none better.
  2. Bind up the brokenhearted:
    1. What is broken here? Spirit, put the pieces back together.
    2. How capable are you to renew, God? There is none better.
  3. Proclaim freedom for the captives:
    1. Who is captive here? Spirit, speak freedom.
    2. How free are your people, God? There are none free-er.
  4. Proclaim release from darkness for prisoners:
    1. Who lives in darkness? Spirit, shine your light and open eyes.
    2. How much space does your light consume, God? All space.
  5. Proclaim the year of the Lords favor:
    1. To what are we indebted and cannot pay? Jesus, you have paid all debt of sin in full. “On earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
    2. How great and lasting is your favor, God? There is none greater.
  6. Proclaim the day of vengeance of our God:
    1. Where does injustice and evil have power?  All power & authority belong to Jesus. All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.
    2. How just is your judgement? Completely loving and right.
  7. Comfort all who mourn:
    1. Who is mourning? Spirit, you are THE comforter. Come near and comfort.
    2. How well do you comfort? There is none more comforting.
  8. Provide for Kingdom-citizens who grieve:
    1. Where is there loss? Spirit, all provision truly is in you. Help us grieve our loss. We once were lost. You grieved us. You found us.
    2. Who knows grief more than you, God? None.
  9. Give your new identity, and take the old identity:
    1. Who identifies with ashes, mourning, heaviness & despair? Spirit, we accept your trade: your crown of beauty, oil of joy, and clothing of praise.
    2. Do you hold back anything of yourself, God? No, you do not.

Isaiah 61 (Link to Bible Gateway)

1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
    because the Lord has
anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
    he has
sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
    and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
    to comfort all who mourn;
to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
    to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
    the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
